Male and female Gnatcatchers jointly choose a nest site and cooperate in building the nest. The 2-3 inch wide nest takes up to 2 weeks to complete.On a recent visit to Mt. Pleasant Tim Ray came upon two Gnatcatchers starting to building a nest. Over the course of 4 days, he returned to the same spot to see the progress the birds had made. See the video below:
