The Fascinating World of the Native Bee / FREE

January 25, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Bee

The news has been abuzz about honey bees, but how well do you know the over 400 species of native bees that call Maryland their home? This presentation, with Natalia Zacharin, will cover an introduction to the native bees we will find in our very own backyards, what amazing traits they have, the incredible co-evolutionary relationship between native bees and native wildflowers, and why their very existence is crucial.

In an era of over-information and incorrect information, learn which plants are for the bees and why it is important to plant gardens for our native bees that help the honey bees, and not the other way around.  We will also explore which plants make the biggest impact, particularly in the transitional periods of early spring and late autumn. Each of us can make a significant difference this decade to help native bees, honey bees and all pollinators thrive.
