Skunk Cabbage Swamp Stomp

February 11, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free
Skunk Cabbage Photo by Gwen Morrison

February is the month to look for Skunk Cabbage. It blooms early (before we even think it’s spring) and can melt snow/ice to do it! Yes – it smells like carrion but it’s not poisonous. The purple and green of skunk cabbage is a welcome change from the browns and grays of winter stream banks and swampy areas. We’ll start with an short introduction, then venture out to the spring of the East Branch to inspect the skunk cabbages. Dress appropriately for the hike…and bring your camera.
