Campers visit the Davis Branch stream during Howard County Conservancy's summer nature day camp

Mt. Pleasant Weekly Camp Sessions – 2019

June 24-28 : Outdoor Odyssey

Do you like to splash in puddles?  Can’t wait to see what’s around the bend on a trail?  Love to sneak up on wildlife?  Join us for a week of exploring our wetlands, forests and meadows.  Plan to get wet and dirty while investigating animal habitats.

July 1-5:  Seasonal Survival

As we adapt to changing seasons, so does the wildlife around us!  Observe a different holiday each day as we discover mixed-up seasons.  Learn how animals adapt to their constantly changing habitats, dress in costume to celebrate the seasons of the year with us, and end the week with a camp festival! (No camp July 4; Prorated Camp Session cost $210)

July 8-12:  Stream Superheroes

Look for life beneath the water’s surface and discover the super-powered critters that can freeze solid, scuba dive, build trap doors and more. Create new water-dwelling species and conduct water quality tests to find the best places for them to inhabit.

July 15-19:  Green STEM Camp

Grab your lab coat, goggles, and mad scientist laugh and join us in our outdoor lab!  Conduct experiments, discover microscopic organisms all around us, and design and engineer devices to solve environmental challenges. Use high and low-tech means to investigate habitats and learn how organisms engineer their environments to survive.  (Session Filled. Waiting list is available)

July 22-26:  Expedition: Basecamp

Explore the trails of the Patapsco Valley to HCC’s ‘Base Camp’ and return home to tell tales of your legendary trekking adventures! You will learn mountaineering skills, practice wilderness survival techniques, improvise engineering, and much more.  Show off your skills at an optional Family Camp Out that will be offered Friday night.  (Session Filled. Waiting list is available)

July 29-Aug 2:  Fantastic Beasts

Explore the magical world of Howard County to find many beasts: real, fantastic and fossilized. Let imagination guide you as we search for extraordinary finds and unbelievable discoveries! Go on a creature adventure and test your species spotting and identification skills.   (Session Filled. Waiting list is available)

Aug 5-9:  Water Wizards

What better way to escape the heat of summer than by participating in some aqua adventures! During this cool-down celebration, campers can create their own water game. From visiting wetlands, painting with watercolors, to searching for salamanders, you can expect to get wet!  (Session Filled. Waiting list is available)

August 12-16: Friends in Flight – bugs, birds, bats

Can you spot camouflaged critters hiding in the forests and meadows? Search for pollinators, collect monarch caterpillars to participate in Monarch Watch, and assist scientists in identifying what species help our plants to grow. Master the mechanics of an easy landing through an “egg drop” challenge and test out your aerodynamic understanding in a paper airplane contest!  (Session Filled. Waiting list is available)

August 19 – 23: Trail Blazers

Hit the trails to walk where few have gone before. Locate deer trails, find woodpecker holes, roll logs and search for salamanders.  Wildlife may lay low in the summer heat, but campers will track them high and low through the forests surrounding our Camps.  Meet animal visitors each day in this special session of Summer Camp!  (Session Filled. Waiting list is available)

  • At Mt. Pleasant only:  August 19 – 23 (session 9)
  • Camp Day 8:30 – 4:00; No Extended Day options available
  • Cost: $300, including special events each day
  • Limit: 30 campers ages 6 – 12
