Volunteer Opportunities at the Howard County Conservancy
Volunteers are the backbone of the Howard County Conservancy. From trail maintenance to office assistance, the work of the Conservancy is dependent upon volunteers. Hundreds of volunteers help at Mt. Pleasant every year. Below are some of the volunteer opportunities at the Conservancy. Please call 410-465-8877 or email hcconservancy@hcconservancy.org for more information.
Volunteer Naturalists
Volunteer Naturalists lead nature walks for Kindergarten through Fourth Grade Howard County Students. We will provide two training sessions a year; March for Spring field trips and September for Fall field trips. The training runs every Thursday of those months from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. The commitment is to lead five nature walks for the year (we appreciate more).
Games and Crafts Assistants
Do you like to do crafts? Become a Games and Crafts Assistant at Mt. Pleasant. Teach how to make butterflies or become fireflies, for Howard County School children. We will provide a one day training and ask that you help with five programs.
Wednesday Morning Volunteers
From mid-March to mid-November the Wednesday morning volunteers assist with anything from trail maintenance to working in the Honors Garden and helping maintain the historic gardens around the house. From late-November to early-March the Wednesday morning volunteers roll up their sleeves and dive into the history of the farm, researching and making displays.
Office Volunteers
The Gudulsky Education Center is open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays. We are looking for volunteers to be greeters, gift shop attendees and Saturday Morning Hikers. The Conservancy always needs help with the bulk mailings for the newsletters and donations
On-going Volunteer Opportunities
There are many on-going volunteer opportunities that you can ‘drop-in’ at the Conservancy. Come on over whenever you have time and check our “to do” list. Please call first to be sure we are here and find out what is on the list.
Animal Maintenance
As our animals are multiplying we are looking for help to feed, water and clean the animals and their cages. This would be a perfect family volunteer opportunity.
