Volunteer Opportunities at the Howard County Conservancy
Volunteers are the backbone of the Howard County Conservancy. From trail maintenance to office assistance, the work of the Conservancy is dependent upon volunteers. Hundreds of volunteers help every year. Below are some of the volunteer opportunities at the Conservancy. Please call 410-465-8877 or email hcconservancy@hcconservancy.org for more information.
Volunteer Naturalists
Volunteer Naturalists lead nature walks for kindergarten through eighth grade Howard County students. We provide four training sessions, one morning a week in March and September. The commitment is to lead five nature walks a year (we appreciate more!).Games and Crafts Assistants
Do you like to do crafts? Become a Games and Crafts Assistant at Mt. Pleasant. Teach Howard County School children such things as how to make butterflies or become fireflies. Lead adults in crafts using natural materials at events and in workshops.Drop-In Gardening/Habitat Restoration
Gardening and habitat restoration opportunities include: drop in gardening on Wednesday mornings (all levels of experience welcome!), habitat restoration workgroups on Thursday afternoons and occasional Saturdays and a children’s gardening group on the first and third Saturday and second and fourth Wednesday. Please call or check our website calendar for a complete schedule.Office Volunteers
The Gudelsky Education Center is open to the public from Wednesday through Saturday. We are looking for volunteers to be greeters and gift shop assistants. The Conservancy also needs help in the office with bulk mailings, the newsletters and other clerical duties.Event Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to help with special events at the Conservancy. We need help to set-up, clean up, staff the welcome tables, assist with refreshments and all the other needs of a public event.Animal Care
As our animals are multiplying, we are looking for help to feed, water and clean them and their cages. We have terrapins, chickens, goats and a tree frog. This is a great family volunteer opportunity. Persons over 14 may apply and a one-hour training is required. Volunteers need to be available between 9 – 3 weekdays to have access to indoor animals.Summer Junior Camp Counselors
Junior counselors are and trained to assist our Counselors during summer nature camps. We invite teenagers 14 to 18 years of age to apply.Lots to do. Lots of fun doing it. And pride in the preserving of a County Treasure!
